I am many things.
I’m a communicator, an artist, a linguist, an educator, a friend, a dressmaker, an adventurer, a mother, a storyteller, a learner, a designer, and a writer.
Above all, I am a child of God, and an ambassador of Jesus Christ.
Today, I want to invite you into the next chapter of my story…
For the past fifteen years, my husband David and I have poured ourselves into serving international communities with Overland Missions. The last ten years we’ve lived in the arid expanse of the Namib Desert in Southwestern Angola. Our mission has been to share the transformative message of Jesus Christ with the unreached nomadic tribal groups in this formidable region.
Southwestern Angola is home to particularly remote and neglected people groups, who are largely overlooked, or exploited. Extreme environmental conditions and linguistic isolation mean that most tribes in our region have no Christian witness whatsoever. We have made our home amongst them, and it’s here that we’re raising our four children, while fervently evangelizing and nurturing disciples in the faith.
Our desire is to cultivate true and authentic relationships to the end of seeing God’s Kingdom manifest here on earth. We believe humanity, diversely represented through culture and language, is uniquely and inherently precious and valuable.
As more people desire to follow Jesus in these rural areas, we recognize the absence of robust, relevant, and accessible theological and ministerial training for them. Coming from non-institutionalized and pre-literate backgrounds, their needs and learning profiles are unique and dynamic.
Currently, no training exists for our brothers and sisters in these remote areas who are destined to become the indigenous church leaders for their people. I believe the Lord has burdened me with a sense of responsibility to mitigate this shortfall, by preparing training solutions for them. Solutions that will effectively equip and sustain the emerging faith communities in rural southwestern Angola, in harmony with their cultural expression.
After much prayer and reflection, I am excited to apply to the Master of Arts in Theological and Cultural Anthropology (MATCA) course at Eastern University. This program is uniquely designed to investigate the intersection between faith and culture, and I believe it will empower me to equip leaders for the niche church movements that, by faith, we anticipate flourishing in the years to come! Thankfully, this program is offered for part-time, online study, allowing our family to maintain our momentum and engagement in Angola without interruption.
This endeavor doesn’t exist in a vacuum, but rather, builds on my previous training as an educator in the lifelong learning sector in the UK, and as I complete a Bacharel em Teologia from a Brazilian-American institution. I am excited to further develop my skills and better prepare myself to serve this growing move of God. I look forward to increasing capacity, in pace with what the Holy Spirit is already doing amongst the people.
To step into this next chapter there are significant costs, for which I was hoping to secure grant funding, or scholarships. Sadly, after investigating hundreds, to date, I have not found any funding options for which I am eligible to apply. The overall costs, including tuition, fees, and books, are projected to be around $25,000. I warmly invite you to sponsor this educational endeavor; in turn, investing in the future leaders of the emerging indigenous Church in Southwestern Angola!
